64 SC issues. Carbs?

#1 Post by David Leonoff »

I have a 64 SC with Weber carbs. It has trouble when trying to maintain a constant speed. Acceleration is no problem but when I try to keep a constant RPM (or speed) it cuts out all the time. Any ideas?

Gunge in jets.

If the car has been siiting for a spell and the fuel evaporates, a sticky residue is left which

can form into sticky lumps.

There are proprietory gas conditioners you can add to the fuel which are supposed to stop

this.

Some listers swear by turning off the fuel cock and running the motor until it stops so that

there is very little gas left to evaporate.

I put plastic bags over the air intakes to stop evaporation.

David,
First be sure all the tune items are in good shape. You
might want to look at how steady the timing stays when
running at the problem rpm. You also want to blow clean all
the jet passages you might just have a clogged jet. If all
of those items are ok then you might need to enrich the idle
jets a small amount. I would try by steps of .02 mm not
going beyond .05 mm., in other words if the idle jet is a 55
(.55 mm) raise that too a 57 jet.
