Looking for a reputable person to rebuild my 1963, 741 transmission; preferably in the Northwest (Washington, Oregon). Any references, recommendations? Thanks, Steve Crist

On the West Coast there's Werkstat (Jon Bunin) in Vista, CA.

Steve I had Import Transmission Portland Oregon do my 519 splitcase transaxle, they did a great job. Good luck. George

Sorry Jacques, when I think of a gearbox Vic's face appears in my spirit. Your face appears when I think of an four cam engine.
But you are right, I shall have of to think of you!

All the best from France!

X3 for both Jacques and Jon. Both long established SoCal stalwarts.

x4 for Jon. He has his customers buy most of the parts from me! Win, win.
When someone calls me from that part of the country, I usually give them Jon's number.

Hi All
I usually don't do the boxes anymore but i have a very experienced buider on site who may not have done as many as Vic but Vic does not even come close in the no of swing axle VW/Porsche boxes he has done. Jon usually has a backlog and can not even come close to the turnaround we are capable of since we don't have to wait for parts. The other nuance is that we offer the Cadrobbi conversion that cures the diff problems and make shipping easier. If you are in the market for a straight forward rebuild consider me if you want concourse anal assembly Jon is the best and if you want to go fast and be suported at the track Vic. There are a few more excellent builders out there but good luck finding them and getting a reasonable price. Willis Works on the east coast is a good option and a few shops like the Stable do great jobs for their customers but they are not in the unit rebuild arena.

Jack rebuilt both my engine and trans-axle. He is a good fellow and technically savvy.

I'm saving up my pennies. You'll help me install it, right, Eric?
