Rear License Plate Mounting & Proper Bracket,1962 Roadster?
My roadster is in the final stages of body redo and repaint. The shop wants to know what is the correct location of mounting holes for my car. He says there were 4 holes before he repaired some poor bodywork done previously but is doubting that they were correct. Also, he we want to know what the bracket should look like. Images and dimensions would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Bob Slayden

Bob, I used the 356Talk "Search" link and found several topics discussing where to mount the rear plate, see these topics:

For US cars, dealers probably used a variety of bracket types, or just mount it directly to the body. There is no "factory correct" style bracket that I am aware of. Here is one that is used today:

I would bet that every dealer mechanic did it a different way. If the dealer put on his license plate frame then who knows. al zim

Re: Rear License Plate Mounting & Proper Bracket,1962 Roadst
I am considering using one of these brackets to mount the UK style rectangular plate onto the rear of my C car.
I have seen that it comes with the mounting hardware however can someone advise the size of the bolt that holds the plate onto the bracket.
Which type of bolt would be correct.
I believe the bracket has an up-stand of approximately 2cms.
Many Thanks

Surely not correct but I use a nylon bolt/nut to attach the plate. No rust and less chance of gouging my body/paint.

My car (T6) has 4 holes right into the body. I use some extra 6mm allen-head seat track bolts with thick o-rings under the plate. Not original but it looks good, and it's a nice opportunity to reach up above the muffler to install the nuts.

PS My mounting bracket is similar if not the same as the bracket you are considering Eric.

Thanks Doug for the measurements, I'll get a few of those in black.
Martin, I think I'll go with the bracket, it holds the plate of the body about 20mms.
