356 on postage stamps

#1 Post by Steve Harrison »

Maybe these are well known, but I don't think I've seen them on ebay before.
How many other stamps has the 356 been on I wonder?

I've never seen those before. The eBay ad does not explain what country issued the stamps or when they were issued.

Thanks for posting,

I think it's a joke !
Look at the cut on edges: it's the same on the 5 boards.

I know you can have custom US stamps made online, I assume at the post office website. Perhaps that's what these are. Maybe the seller made them specifically to sell to car guys who don't know they could have them made themselves.

It may not be a joke, but I would use caution to determine if they are real and current stamps. At one time the USPS offered a service to allow you to have custom stamps printed with almost anything on it that you wish. You supply the artwork, send it in and USPS would print custom stamps for you. My amateur radio club actually did this and I have some of those stamps. At the Post Office, there was a little kit on the counter that you could purchase that had all the instructions and where to send the artwork.
I looked on the USPS site today, and they don't seem to offer that service any more.
(edit) I just searched on-line and there are companies that can do this:
http://www.zazzle.com/custom/stamps
also
http://photo.stamps.com
So, it can be done and is legal . . .

I looked more closely and that isn't a dollar sign on there. I don't know what the symbol notation is but it's some sort of non US curency. The seller is in Australia,. so who knows?

Guys, the stamps are clearly denominated as one Euro stamps. Not American. European Euro zone countries.

What I don't know, not having been to Europe since the Euro was adopted, is if individual countries issue stamps or they are issued centrally.

I remember years ago a guy was doing custom stamps somewhere in Europe, the cool thing was he would mail you a postcard using them, I got one and am still glad I did.

Every country produces its own stamps.

Thanks Alain. So can you tell which country issued the 356 stamps that Steve posted photos of?

Barry,
I don't know from where come these stamps.
For stamps in euro, the name of the country must be written.

Adam,

those stamps with the red Porsche are real, they are from the "Deutsche Post" here
in Germany, dedicated for the "Wohlfahrtspflege Deutschland", 55 Cent postage plus
25 Cent for welfare. I think I've still 20 pieces and use them sometimes when
writing Porsche-friends.
