If you google for it, you find both ways as well.
I just ordered Dr. Johnson's "A Restorer's Guide to Authenticity", let's see what it says...
I'll keep you up to date!

Dr. Johnson shows it down. All my Pre-A cars came to me that way. However anything can happen in 60 years.

While I tend to agree with Jim, and have seen far more pictures of them down than up.. I have to also agree that they most likely came both ways. Here is a picture from Charlie's site of a 53 (taken in 53) with a whopping 93 miles on the odometer.

"Main thing here is that it lies well in the hand!"
Thanks for all your good help!
Nice picture Steve, both ways seem to be correct now.

1500 Super Emblem
Thanks to a nice guy from France I finallly got a 1500Super emblem.
It's a good reproduction and I will send it to the electro-plating shop as soon as possible for some gold coating.

Pelias,
You might research the 1500 super emblem as I believe they were silver.
I know, gold looks better.

I'm quite sure they came in both colors, gold and silver.
What do the experts say?

Re: Does anyone know something about this car?
The picture Steve posted is from my website. It is an early 53 Coupe 1500 Super and the pictures were taken in March 1953.
http://derwhites356literature.com/DerWh ... Coupe.html
The website is based on pictures and other information I acquired that were taken by Chrysler Corporation Engineers in Detroit in early 1953 as a design study. If you look at the pictures carefully, you will see the car only has 93 miles on the OD. In addition, the "in transit" sticker is still on the rear window. This car was basically untouched when the pictures were taken. Why anyone woud remove the two plastic "pulls" and reverse them is beyond me.
However the picture is of a 53 Coupe.........and the 53 parts books shows the "pull" was installed in the DOWN position.

Re: Does anyone know something about this car?
Pelias,
What people are calling "silver" is aluminum. The gold showed up with the advent of the speedster in 55. Those were brass with gold plating. The other ones were silver because they were aluminum, not because they were plated. So..., while it's true the 1500 Super was at one time issued in both aluminum and gold plated brass,... and it is definitely up to you which one you prefer on your car, it most assuredly would have been delivered in 53 with aluminum emblems,..both "Porsche" and "1500 Super"

Re: Does anyone know something about this car?
The reason I prefer gold is the contrast between gold and patina.
Just a small but nice detail...
It's not the same effect with aluminum.
Maybe I'll try to get a second set in aluminium that I can switch between both!
As always, thanks for all your good advice!

Re: Does anyone know something about this car?
Memory, if it serves me correctly is the Porsche emblem was gold and the 1500 super emblem was aluminum. Not both.
See the 53 that Charlie posted.
