You can ask Joris. He's the 356 antenna expert.

Re: Hirschmann Red Tip Antenna
I would guess no, as all the 356 factory installed antenae's I have seen retract fully into the fender. Not being able to fully retract disturbs the beautiful lines of the car.

Re: Hirschmann Red Tip Antenna
I would not call myself an expert on anything with regard to these cars.
I resonate with Jim, in that I believe that these antennas were never installed on a 356 from the factory. If you can give me the Hirschmann AUTA number I can likely tell you which cars the antenne is appropriate to.

Re: Hirschmann Red Tip Antenna
It looks to be non retractible yes? The pre a ones I've seen have the retracting tube below and the wire connection comes off at a right angle to that. The later ones have an angled connection on the tube. This one has a straight down connection and no tube. I've never seen that kind before. I hope Joris will post his findings. I am curious also.

Re: Hirschmann Red Tip Antenna
John,
I have checked and the AUTA 3500 is a general "nichtversenkbare" antenna and as stated earlier is not specific to the 356. Yes, you could have bought it in the 50's and 60's as an aftermarket part for your 356 but this would be very unlikely as specific antenna's from Hirschmann for the 356 were available.
Best,
Joris

Hirschmann AUTA 3105L & AUTA 12C
This is my NOS Hirschmann red tip antenna set, which should be correct for pre A & A Porsches.

Re: Hirschmann Red Tip Antenna
No, this is not a correct late Pre-A antenna. (there were several versions) The Pre-A red tips had the cable exit at a 90 degree angle with the base. Some of the very first 356A cars also used this antenna. Look in your 356A workshop manual and you will find a picture.

Re: Hirschmann Red Tip Antenna
What is the correct part# for an antenna for a 1958/1959 356?
Is it: Hirschmann AUTA 3105L
And, are some of these without a red tip? with a locking top instead?
Thank you,
Benjamin

Joris
I'm trying to sell a couple of NOS Hirschmann antenna (one or maybe both bought from Stoddard years ago). One is AUTA 2400 LS 11A. The other is AUTA 770S. The boxes indicate that they fit a variety of period cars. Can you tell me if they are appropriate for particular years of the 356 and, perhaps what I should ask for them?
