Jim Breazeale has contributed more photos of 356 and VW starters to aid in identifying the differences between them. I've posted them here: http://356registry.org/tech/starters_35 ... otos2.html
He cleaned up the starters and photographed them from the "business end" so you can see the markings and how they differ: both early and late VW and 356 starters.
These new photos nicely complement his other photos of the different starters in place on the transmission, at: http://356registry.org/tech/starters_35 ... hotos.html
Additional information from Alan Klingen, Brad Ripley, Dave Wildrick, and Ken Daugherty on 356 and VW starters is available here: http://356registry.org/tech/starters_356_vs_vw.html
Thanks to Jim for the excellent new photos.
