356's at Road America last weekend

#1 Post by Dave Brenny »

A really excellent turnout of 356's last weekend for the vintage racing at Road America. Tom Spiegel and Jim Stevenson put together another exclusive 356 only gathering right at the former Porsche park at turn 5, with probably the best spot for getting walk by exposure in the entire racing complex, not to mention a great track veiwing spot too. Cars ranged from somewhat scruffy drivers (mine) to absolutely perfect restorations just out of the shop. Charlie Presta's A coupe was a winner at the Saturday night concurs; what a beautiful car and a job well done.
Vic Skirmants kicked butt as usual humbling even 4 liter Jaguars with wins both Saturday and Sunday. Amazing considering the displacement difference on a 4 mile road course. Bravo!
Next year will be the 50th anniversary of the original Porsche park and I encourage everyone in the midwest check out this great event.

I camped out in a tent in the infield of the carousel for the weekend. What a hoot! Great 356's around turn 5 and great racing. I took a total of 208 photos. Will post a few when I get home from work this afternoon.

Had a great time, too. Lot's of beautiful 356s and a great scene to be a part of. Charlie Presta's car is a beauty and his award is well earned. Look forward to next year's event and showing off my 3rd brake light to Dave Brenny again. Sorry I don't have any pictures to share, it never came out of the trunk long enough to use!

I missed this great event due to my car not being road ready in time. I'll see you guys there next year. I also go to the fall vintage races in Elkhart. See you there too.
