Thanks for the response.
My bad on the typo, the 185 HR15's are 26.25" tall, not 25.25".
Great tip about measuring through the hole with a straight edge on the lip.
I went out to the garage to do just that and discovered "4 1/2 X 15" stamped on the wheel.
Duh!
The primary obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge.

There is the possibility that original centers (stamped with 4.5) are modified with wider (5.5) outers. True for my car when I bought it.

RE: original centers, but with wider rims. True with my car, but the centers were removed from the original wheels and mated with 914 rims in my case, at my request.

The shop was doing a rather brisk - at the time - business in this conversion, 914 wheels were in supply - this was 1980 - and I took advantage. Conversion and chrome for the wheels were part of the package. The chrome hasn't lasted, and now I'm really considering just having them sand blasted and powder-coated or painted. I need new tires, so it might just be a once-to-do-it-all.

Winter Tyres for 356B/C

#336 Post by Derek Skinner »

Dear All,
I have a 356B(T6),
Historic rally prepared, normally used during the spring/summer/early autumn for historic rallying.
Now considering the winter period, but not with snow only, most likely cold, icey roads with elements of mud and rain ++.
i.e. considering the HERO LeJog event in the UK.
Any suggestions for winter tyre options, most likely on 4.5" or 5", 15" rims.
Many thanks,
Derek

Not exactly the same size but will work. I love Blizzaks on my street cars here in Michigan.

In the U.K. Camskill usually have a range of suitable 15" tyres to choose from.

+1 for Blizzaks. I run them year round on our Subaru Outback, but got them for the winters in the Truckee/Tahoe area. Got 40k miles on the first set. We have a difficult private road with a steep incline and plenty of snow and ice, and these tires work amazingly well. They are good wet weather tires, too. Wurth, Heinz and Bridgestone are companies i should have stock in!

k so I just bought nice used set of chrome 5.5 x 15 mangles for my 62B coupe, I think I am reading that the Pirelli CN36 185x70x15 will work front and back without spacers or clearance issues, is that correct?

Correct. I am using those tires myself. With such nice tires, don't you want to use German rims?
