Re: New Tire Recommendations from Porsche Classic
I bet Porsche had something to do with Pirelli making the CN36 165-80 size for our cars. I don't think it was available before.
As far as I am aware, that is the only VR-rated tire in that size.

Re: New Tire Recommendations from Porsche Classic
The chart at the beginning of this thread is confusing. If you search for a tire with the CN36 tread pattern, it leads to (Lucas Tires) and the Pirelli Cinturato in a 185 profile as recommended for a 911.Brad Ripley wrote:http://www.lucasclassictires.com/165VR1 ... l-504p.htm
If you search Pirelli for 165 tires suitable for the 356, it leads to the 165HR Cinturato series with the CA67 tread pattern: http://www.lucasclassictires.com/165HR1 ... irelli.htm
The Michelin XZX (https://www.cokertire.com/michelin-xzx.html) which is similar in tread pattern to the CA67 Pirelli costs less than either the Blockley indicated by Brad (not even a Pirelli!), or the Pirelli 165HR15.

Re: New Tire Recommendations from Porsche Classic
I'm guessing that the tire recommendation is more a marketing ploy than a technical announcement.

The news here, if true, is that Pirelli is now making a 165-80 CN36 tire.

It seems to be news to Pirelli, too. Their website says the 165HR15 tire is a CA67 https://www.cinturato.net/pirelli-cinturato-ca67Edwin Ek wrote:The news here, if true, is that Pirelli is now making a 165-80 CN36 tire.
The only size for the CN36 is 185/70VR15 https://www.cinturato.net/pirelli-cinturato-cn36

Is there still Registry list of currently available tires for 356s? If so, does it need to be updated?

If the table is wrong about 165 VR CN36 tires, that is sloppy work by Porsche.

Re: New Tire Recommendations from Porsche Classic
The current Lucas Classic Tire ad in the mass-market magazines shows a 165HR15 CA-67 tire for $229 each (the 155HR15 CA-67 VW tire is $40 more!). The CN-36 is only listed in the early 911 185/70VR15 size for $299 each.
If the current production Pirellis are Chinese and not Italian-made, given the current owners, that's a huge profit margin...

Re: New Tire Recommendations from Porsche Classic
I've been trying to find a way to post one of the Internet articles about this announcement. Here is the best article I've found (hopefully attached...) in that it talks about Pirelli's special efforts on the tires. But I agree with earlier comments, good luck trying to find these tires right now. Maybe Porsche's marketing team is ahead of Pirelli's.

Re: New Tire Recommendations from Porsche Classic
I wish it was Michelin as everytime I have had a Pirelli there has been a problem with the tires.
New Audi A4, thought my wife had run over a nail and put it through the sidewall, only had it a week, and it was part of the steelbelt exiting the tire, of course it was replaced, but I could hardly wait until she got a flat and ruined a tire by driving on it, which she did with 50% tread left, bought a set of Michelins, happy as a clam now

Re: New Tire Recommendations from Porsche Classic
Definitely a marketing initiative.
Pirelli has recently invested in classic car magazines to promote their re-editions of Cinturato tires. This is probably just another way of regaining share in the vintage car market that's currently mainly owned - here in Europe - by Michelin (premium), Vredestein (mainstream) and Avon (track).

Re: What type & size of tires to use / what fits? / "best" t
I'm looking for a period-correct looking 165 tire with good performance so I'd like to stay away from most of these budget options. I'm aware of the Vredestein Sprint Classics and Michelin XZX, but apparently Pirelli has released a very correct looking Cinturato CA67 165HR15, which is also recommended by Porsche. They are pricey though, does anyone have any experience with them? Worth twice the price?
