correct gaps
Can anybody tell me the correct gaps for body panels before paint?
Is the dimension the same for doors, hood, and engine compartment?

Re: correct gaps
According to James Schraeger ("Buying, Driving, and Enjoying the Porsche 356") the gaps should be about 3.5mm for doors, hood and engine lid.

Re: correct gaps
There is an article describing Roadster production at D'Ieteren which includes a photo of a worker using a tool to check the gaps. This article describes the gap as 3mm. I think this was from the Christophorus magazine in the early '60s.

Re: correct gaps
Thanks guys for the info....I think I will go with 3.5mm.
I am not sure how thick the paint will wind up, and don't want it to be a problem.

Re: correct gaps
Hi, Greg,
This is a common question that seems to come up about every six months on this Forum. Searching through our archives yielded the following posts:
Door Gaps
http://porsche356registry.org/356talk/t ... =1&t=24474
what are the panel gaps meant to be
http://porsche356registry.org/356talk/t ... =1&t=17258
door and hood gaps

Panel Gaps
http://porsche356registry.org/356talk/t ... f=1&t=8595
The consensus seems to be to go with 3.5 mm to allow for paint thickness. I hope that this helps!

I've found many of these type links dont work - is that because of the 'move' or am I missing something?!Carl Zapffe wrote:Hi, Greg,

I also found none of these working. Is there a way to do it?

Re: correct gaps
Martin there is a mention of the 'archive' - see resources drop down menu at top right then bottom option - but even searching there didn't yield anything useful - i used the searches mentioned in Carl's thread ("what are the panel gaps meant to be" etc..)
Hopefully there's a way which we just don't know ... yet

If you hit a dead end on the archive search, just Google the topic. It'll show the previous threads.

I was able to renew these links using moderator tools - I'll experiment and see if I can come up with a way that anyone can look for an old link based on the thread number, which is the number on the end of the link.

Re: correct gaps
After fooling around a bit, the obvious solution to renew a link is to use the links format that is in the emails sent to you when you are subscribed to a thread.
Example: "viewtopic.php?f=1&t=44680" (it's in quotes to prevent it from turning into a link for this example)
If you type the link exactly as it is inside the quotation marks, and replace the thread number with the one you're interested in, you go to that thread.
The link is truncated when displayed in a post.

Re: correct gaps
As do others, I always use " site:forum.porsche356registry.org " and add the enquiry before the word 'site' with a space in between.
