Becker Grand Prix

#1 Post by Jim Nelson »

Can anyone recommend a source to rebuild my original Becker Grand Prix?

A few years ago Horst Becker's company (it is or was in the USA) offered a variety of services for the old Becker radios. I cannot find my data on it as I sold the old Mercedes that had them quite a while ago. I even sold them one of the radios for their rebuilding program. I think they were in N.J. but cannot find any data within the digital dust bunnies around here.

You might try asking some of the old Mercedes use groups. The radios were in many of the 126 series cars (example: 300SD, circa 1981 or so) and 123 series cars (example: 300D circa late 70s early 80s).

Becker Grand Prix

#3 Post by Ken Daugherty »

I have a 'collection' of old radios including some Becker
Mexico's. I think they may be 12v. Any interest??? I have no idea if any
work and can provide a inventory and pictures. Some may also be VW.
Can they be restored and approx core value???

Yes, I've seen the Becker site ( http://www.beckerautosound.com/ ), and they seem to specialize in remanufactured newer units. However, I have the original radio, the original warranty book for the radio, and all of the data for this specific serial number.
So I'm trying to see if there is a repair/remanufacture service for these older radios without donating it as a core and getting a different radio in return.

Becker Grand Prix

I had a Becker restored by their US office , it's been a couple of years
, but it was a little over $300 . It came out looking and sounding like
new. They had a website with info on repair and rebuild.

FYI the latest contact for Becker vintage service is Tom at 201-961-1310. (the 1309 extension will take you to parts....)
