356 Police Car Value?

#1 Post by Herrick Griffin »

What's a 356 Polizei worth? I ask because there's one on eBay.

Herrick

I don't think you will find too many comps.

Cars that rare are almost impossible to value, since as Jim points out they almost never come up for sale. Someone might be willing to pay crazy money for it. Or not. As always, it takes a willing buyer and a willing seller to decide what is a "fair" price. If they can't agree, it won't sell.

It's a pretty cool car.

If only that was a BIN price and not some number under the reserve; that car is seriously cool on many levels. 8)

Yeah, this is one of those cars that if you want it, and have the coin, don't think, just bid.

Does the welding on that patch look ok ?

I think you would need to get it up on a ramp and poke about with an inspection lamp before bidding.

With the recent sniping at eBay, some of it justifiable, here is a perfect example of where an unusual car gets worldwide exposure. How would we have heard about this car if it weren't for the eBay listing?

This is fascinating, and a subject for Charlie or someone else to cover. Maybe even a 356 Polizei Registry. How many 356s were taken out of production each year and made for police departments? Better yet, how many are left? Fellow UK Registry member Helen has one, and I believe that Jerry Seinfeld owns one. I'll bet that 98% or more were either trashed or converted back to daily drivers.

This has to be one rare duck. I would love to read how the cars were specially made for police work and what they had added to them. What a great car to lead a parade!!! 8) :D

Helen Owns Police Car

#10 Post by Shane Balkowitsch »

I know the beautiful 356 Member Helen owns a very nicely restored Police Car and maybe she can shed some light or give some information at least, just a thought. She can be found at the below profile.

I have always dreamed if I had my car in Europe someday I would be lucky enough to be pulled over by her and your 356 Police Car.

Thanks,

Sold mine ( #162014 ) to a private party back in 1989 for USD 160,000.-. Ultimately, it has ended up at the new Zuffenhausen Porsche museum.

Yes David, that's her alright, #162014. I was at the museum last Friday, she's still sitting there on the upper floor.
Cheers,
Janos
