Throttle linkage hookup on 519 splitcase transaxle
Does any one have a picture on how the throttle linkage bracket hooks up on the transaxle. I have a single front mount on my 55 Speedster and have lost the bracket that the throttle linkage coming out of the tunnel hookes to. I need to see what it looks like and how it bolts to the transaxle. Any pictures and or discription would be greatly appreciated also any part numbers for the bracket. Thanks and have a great 356 week. George

George,
There should be a bellcrank post fastened to the bottom of your transmission, just behind the intermediate plate. Do you have the piece pictured below?

Jon, would this hookup be the same for a splitcase with the single front mount, Which is what I have. Also is this just a longer bolt that goes through the transaxle halves? Also is there any place to get this piece as mine is missing. Thanks for your help George

The bolt is standard length. If you can't find the piece, email me after Oct 27. We are at Sebring right now, back on that date. The piece is the same for a single-mount and dual-mount.

The hex end is threaded, and fastens to the bolt through the case halves. This is strictly a Porsche part, as Volkswagens used a throttle cable, not rods and bellcranks.

There are 3 or 4 shafts for the linkage bellcranks:
356 23 158 519, early and late 10 x 106 (hex portion included is 14 x 18)
644 23 146 644 and 716 sorry, I don't have inventory to measure
695 301 307 00 741 early 10 x 86
914 301 307 00 741 late 10 x 94

Re: Throttle linkage hookup on 519 splitcase transaxle
Brad,
If you're measuring overall lengths, they're 106mm, 97mm, 86mm and 106mm for the final 356B/C/911/914 version. The hex version George needs has only one length, and applies to all 519 transmissions. NLA should offer the 644/716 version, virtually all are worn down and need replacing, since early bellcranks had no bushings- they can be made by shortening the 914 piece.

The NLA tag at the bottom of the photo refers to the 914 piece as 105mm, which is an overall length; all other measurements are overall lengths.

Re: Throttle linkage hookup on 519 splitcase transaxle
First of all thanks for all the pictures and information. I dug through all my VW/Porsche parts boxes and came up with the shaft with hex nut on it but can not find the bell crank for sure I have found one but it has only one ball fitting on one end and the other end has what looks like the ball fitting but instead of a ball it has a groove around the end which looks like a wire goes around it. So if some one has a picture of the bell crank that goes on the shaft and could post it I would appreciate it. When the wife gets home tomorrow with are digital camera I'll post what I have and hope fully get this mess figured out. Thanks for all the help and hope everyone has a great 356 week-end. George

A 519 transmission bellcrank. Correct finish should be zinc, not black, but this is the nicest example I have at the moment. Earlier 519 bellcranks did not have grease fittings. A 644/716 bellcrank is similar, but shorter in length.

Re: Throttle linkage hookup on 519 splitcase transaxle
Jon, thanks for the picture, it is exactly what I have found in my box of parts minus the grease zerk but it is drilled for a zerk. Now for the next question coming out of my tunnel I have a ball socket and rod that goes to the ball on the left side of the ball crank but what hooks to the left side of the ball crank? it appears to be grooved for some kind of different hookup other than the ball. On the back of my fan shroud I have ball crank set up for a rod with a ball end coming up from the ball crank on the transaxle but so far I havent found a rod that goes up to the fand shroud. I would appreciate your take on this. Thanks for the help. George
