Steering Box Gear Lub/Grease

#1 Post by Guest »

I know this has been covered before, but I have not been able to find the thread. I'm considering replacing the gear lub. in my 356C steering box with grease. I remember there being much discussion about this in the past. Does any one have the skinny on this?

Steering Box Oil/Grease

Jim,
Use Lubriplate 1500. It is a very light EP rated grease suitable for
use in gearboxes that tend to be difficult to retain EP rated oils.

Is Lubriplate 1500 a viable option for a leaky steering box?

#5 Post by Guest »

My 61 sunroof B is leaking gear oil at both seals in the steering box. Is the Lubriplate 1500 lithium grease, or a comparable product, a viable solution or should I focus on removing it for a rebuild? I would be interested in your collective experience with this.

Thanks,

Bob
