On both the metal and fiber covers you will find a thick piece of cardboard glued to the inside metal bracket where it contacts the battery case. This is supposed to prevent direct contact with the battery and stop any current seepage. Of course, this only works on correctly dimensioned DIN spec batteries.

Hello all,

I posted 14 very clear photos of this battery box cover on my Flickr sight. The address is as follows:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/25362374@N03/4894706138/

I still do not have an answer as to what, if anything, this item was used for. Take a look if you have the time.

Thanks,
Will Randall

Has anyone else plugged the battery tender into the Auxiliary power port under the left edge of the dash? It seems to work well with little voltage drop for the low amp or so of current flow.

Using the car battery to power a battery tender which charges the car battery? Not much sense to that.

On the Pre - A cars the wood blocks isolated/insulated the steel cover from the battery. Also acted as the hold down. My thoughts only, not fact. .........Jim.

Connect the pig tail for the battery charger across the Batt+ and neg/ground at the generator voltage regulator. Leave the engine lid up and it will remind you to disconnect before driving off and to do a check of the engine compartment
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Was there originally tarpaper between the bottom of battery and the metal or just undercoating?
