GENERATOR/VOLTAGE REGULATOR-DID I MISUNDERSTAND?

#1 Post by Guest »

Ben,
You can also test the generator by removing the field on
the generator and then grounding the generator field. this
causes the gen. to go to full output so you should see 7+
volts coming out of the gen. at 2500+ rpm. Do this only for
a few seconds since this is very hard on the generator.

Ok, the generator light comes on - generator or voltage regulator.
According to expert Joe Leoni, disconnecting fan belt so generator is
non incumbered, Joe says to ground out DF (after disconnecting this lead
from the V Regulator) and then apply +6V to D+ on the generator. If
generator is good, then the generator "motors" clockwise. No problemo,
mine does that. But according to him, in order to check out the field
coils, if one now disconnects the DF from ground, the engine will now
rotate faster! Mine just stops. I have 3 other generators, and 2 do the
same thing-stop- and one rotates CCW when +6v to only DF, but if done
the Leoni way, DF to ground, and +6v to D+, it rotates CW and then stops
when DF disconnected from ground. Did I understand this wrong or do I
have 4 bad generators???
