Groupe 356 Rescue effort
Group 356 our St. Louis group went to Hillards house to formulate a plan of attack to get his car out of the backyard. We are going to get it out of the mud and into his garage next Saturday. We are going to have to evict a really nice Orange 2cv Paneltruck to get the speedster under cover. The speedsters not for sale he's comitted to spend the money to resurect it. We've been encouraging him to get it inside for the last ten years or so. I think we are almost there. Hope we can save another one.

A coupe pieces of advice I can give from moving lots of car like this one.
1. Make sure you strap the doors shut, if a door pops, the body can flex in ways you don't want.
2. Get as much air in the tires as possible, even using fix a flat if you have to. The wheels will need to be worked on later, so digging out some fix a flat will not be a big deal.
3. Try to free up the wheels before moving the car, this causes less stress on moving, both for the people moving and stress on the car.
4. Make sure you tell everyone helping what they can push and pull on and what they can't, it is a lot easier to look like a know-it-all before the fact than an I-told-you-so after someone grabs the windshield frame and cracks the glass.
I also do house calls as a Porsche Paramedic for these kind of rescues, just let me know.
This cab was one I didn't strap the doors, and it folded in on itself on the ride home. Also, I had to cut down two trees to get it out of the weeds.

Thanks for posting that picture Mark, I love it and I've saved in my "Diamonds in the Rust" folder. Dreams are sustaining, and among the best of mine are of pulling off a tarp and finding something just like that.
At the risk of going slightly off topic (my apologies in advance), here's another of my favs from that file grouping --

Pre A speedster
We got it in the garage today and up on jackstands. VIN is 80366. We think it might have some racing history. Hilliard said he bought it in the 70's from the owner of the Eidellweiss restaurant at Manchester and 270 if anyone knows more about it. More pictures coming soon

These are the pictures of our rescue effort. The participants are Hilliard, Bill Morris, Steve Benesh,Klaus Selbert,Cole, Pam, and Mark Todorovich. Last minute advice from Kyril Boldt and a great Brat and German potato salad by Bonnie. The pictures were by April Morris. All the work only took about 1 1/2 hours. all were safe after it was done and the car made a big step forward.
The oil looked like out of the can after the car sat there more than 30 years.

Hi, Mark!
Adam will be happy that you strapped the doors shut! And I will be very happy if you keep adding to this thread. Please continue to post and tell us all about the progress in bringing another 356 Speedster back from near certain death. This looks worse than Rusty's car!

I know there is a story of how the dent in the front end is in the perfect shape of a curb. Reminds me of the cars I used to see at the auctions that had a perfect shape of a pole in them.

Maybe.... but you've got to hand it to those guys for the effort involved in rescuing that poor 356. By the time it's restored, nobody will want to add up the man hours involved. I guess we all do it for the love of the beasts.
I've been involved with several groups such as this and I have to say that NONE of them have the dedication and knowledge that this group has.
Cheers,
