Stoddards Ate valves
Although the price is excellent, the valves Stoddards is selling as Ate 3048 are really AE brand made in South Africa and do NOT have sodium.

Hi Rick,
I believe if you were to contact Bruce Schwartz at Stoddard, he would immediately correct this obvious error with his staff. Although the business has changed hands, it still has the legacy of being the reason why so many of these cars are still on the road. Bruce knows that and I don't think *he* would ever intentionally do anything like this. The sales staff needs to be set straight because it only leads to dissatisfaction and bad publicity.
They are still my first call, but I do long for the days of Dave Zonneville and Sandy Banush at the sales desk!
Regards,

Im sorry but Id rather not open the bag, the exhaust valves will be returned. I dont have the box either but they are made in S. Africa. Ive seen some of these valves made in Belgium also. I didnt actually order any of these but I referred 3 others to buy them. We will use the intakes and find some sodium filled exhausts.

Re: Stoddards Ate valves
Rick, my suggestion is to call Bruce Schwartz at Stoddard, his phone is 216-408-7429. I'm sure he will take the valves back or exchange them.
I don't think that ATE valves are in production anymore. Probably Stoddard's online catalog simply has not been updated to reflect that.
And I'm not sure that the sodium filling is all that important, given the better steel alloy designs are in use today.
Best regards,
Barry

Look at their online catalog. NO ONE sells Ate valves that cheaply and I feel that Stoddards should be more knowlegeable about their products. Pictures will be posted of the valves sold as OEM Ate despite assurance over the phone that they were OEM Ate.

That packaging with the 'AE' logo looks very familiar. I had a valve replacement done in Sept '08 and didn't want the guy doing the valve work to supply the valves. I wanted 'OEM ATE Sodium Filled Exhaust Valves' so I went to Stoddard's. I bought a set and paid $78 a pop thinking I was getting sodium filled valves. I just checked the catalog and the exhaust valve listed as a 'replacement for the ATE' (but not specifically called out as sodium filled) is now selling for about $27 each. 'Replacement' to me meant sodium filled. The engine is not a race engine (other than in my mind at times...) and what is now installed works and will probably continue to work. I'm not here to bash Stoddard's, but not getting what I thought I was buying at the price I paid is very disappointing to say the least.

Rick, I've searched the web and cannot find a vendor who sells ATE sodium filled valves for our cars (or any cars in fact).
Who are you planning to buy them from? I'm sure other 356Talk members would be interested in knowing a source for them.

I don't see a valve listed for $170 at http://www.stoddard.com/shop/shopdispla ... ComponentsRick raes wrote:Stoddards has them for sale, $170 each. I have an NOS set and many good used 3048 TRW-Ate valves.
Are they not shown in the online catalog? Am I looking at the wrong page?
Here are the valves shown on that page:
546-05-203 Intake valve, ATE No. 3030, 4 req'd. 356A, B Normal & Super. $20.87
616-105-401-00 Intake valve, ATE No. 3041, 4 req'd. 356B Super 90 only. $111.53
616-105-402-00 Intake valve, ATE No. 3044, 4 req'd. 356C, SC, & 912. $12.90
616-105-405-01 Exhaust valve, old ATE No. 3043, new ATE No.30114, 4 req'd. 356A/B Normal, Super & Super 90. $51.01
616-105-406-01 Exhaust valve, replacement for ATE No. 3048. Fits 356C, SC, & 912. $26.86
Where are they for $170?
I wish we could get someone from Stoddard to participate in this discussion and clear things up.

I bought a set of TRW 3048 exhausts today for $75 each. I found them online but unfortunately that was the last set at that price. Ive never paid more than $25 each for them before. Im glad the AE valves are available at such a low price, I dont mean to demean them. Stoddards has been my first choice for 33 years and hopefully many more
