I don't know how you got a price of $25 for sodium exhaust valves. I've been paying $45 minimum for years!! On a list price of $78.50. You must have had one hell of a deal with somebody.

I talked with Walt at Competition Engineering earlier this week about my head rebuild. He said Ate sodium valves would be close to $200 each, and his preferred exhaust valve in its place (for the past few years) is made by a Swiss company called Intervalves. He seems very happy with them and even under racing applications they wear well. I visited the Intervalves website, and it looks like they do all their manufacturing in one factory in Switzerland.

Pelican sells these, but I haven't found them in any other online catalogs.

Given Walt's recommendation, based on the number of heads he does, I feel comfortable with this choice!

As a general comment, there are no more good supplies of either the old ATE nor the more recent TRW brand valves on the market. There are always hoards of older Porsche parts here and there. Price is usually what the market will bear.

Aren't SS exhaust valves available that are durable and lighter than the sodium filled ATE? I have a set of racing head that use SS but I think the stem diameter is smaller than stock. I was hoping the engine experts would discuss SS valves.

I too would be interested to hear the list's experience regarding SS valves, especially given that ATE/TRW products are so short in supply. For reference, SI Valves carries OEM replacement valves for late 356 and 912 heads with the standard 10mm stems:

I have learned from Stoddards that the valves I bought in '08 were actually made by Intervalve of Switzerland.

A 3059 is a 2-ltr exhaust valve, old Porsche number was 901 105 408 00, now 901 105 408 50 .

Size is 38 x 9 x 113,50

What are folks using for valves in A heads? I have replacements from Intervalve for the exhaust. I can only find AE for the intakes. My cylinder head specialist tells me not to get AE, the quality is not there. If I order the parts from Porsche, part no. 546.05.203, what do I get? Anyone know of a source for NOS Ate or TRW? This is for a 59 Super motor. Many thanks.

I am not aware of the AE valves being "the quality is not there". AE is a very old company specializing in manufacturing of engine valves and now part of Federal Mogul. There is no reason to think these valves are poor quality.

As for the Swiss Intervalve brand, you will only find the large Super 90 version (40 mm vs 38 mm head) available from that company at about $40 each.
