Need Mains .020 OD STD ID .015 Thrust-Help!

#1 Post by Cliff Murray »

Years ago the aftermarket companies sold odd bearings to repair the #1 thrust fit after the web in the case was machined. Competition Engineering modified this 912 case in the early 80s. They told me today that the bearings have been unavailible for over 15 years. They were very helpfull and there are options to fix the problem if I don't find the correct bearings but it is easier if I can find the oddball bearings. The crankshaft is STD/STD. Please help if you can. Thanks.

I bought a 912 case on eBay that had the flywheel main area machined and a steel ring fitted to fill the machined area. Jay Robison (The Maestro's machinist) told me this was a method to repair the thrust surface IIRC. I have not heard of the special bearings but the method above seems to allow the use of a standard bearing. Possibly this is an inferior solution devised because of the unavailability of the special bearing.

Cliff,
The first thing you need to do is measure the web thickness of #1
and the bore of all the other bearings to see where you stand.

That is the good method to bring a case back to life. The use of
special #1 bearings was from the day they were available but not any
more except for NOS stuff.
