I have a 1958 coupe and my fuel cock will not shut off the fuel. Are the internal parts defective? I did inspect the fuel cock lever and it does turn the shaft on the fuel cock.
Thank you, Royal

Hi Royal,
I guess that it's possible that it could fail that way but I think it's unlikely. I think that the most common failure is fuel leaking around the rotating handle.
Remember that to turn the fuel off, you should turn the handle to the most
counter-clockwise position. 90 degrees clockwise is the main position and another 90 degrees clockwise is reserve.
"AUF" doesn't mean "OFF"

Suggestion: If you have access to another, working fuel cock, compare the feel of resistance of the two as you turn the handle. If yours turns more/very freely, the chances are good that the cork disc which distributes/stops the gas flow is worn out. Disassemble and replace (are kits still avail.?).
