pre a wells slotted 16

#2 Post by Barry Brisco »

Bonjour michel,

Veuillez excuser mon français faible. Qu'est-ce vous
veulent-il savoir vos roues de 16 pouces ?
[What is it you want to know about your 16 inch wheels?]

Voulez-vous savoir s'ils sont corrects pour votre voiture ?
[Do you want to know if they are correct for your car?]

I think they may be original

#4 Post by E Ray Knight »

serial number 5476 is listed in my charts as early 51 (51 being assigned 5411-5600 - of course never being sure how far into the series the numbers were used), but your car is a fairly early 51. Brett Johnsonis book states slotted wheels began in early 51, this apparently by survey, not parts book. The first time they were parts book listed they were 3.25x16. yours are correct Kronprinz, but 3.00x16, and absolutely stamped 12/50. This fits your early 51 completed car very nicely. AND the 3.00x16 is quite correct for very early use of slotted wheels, which would have been 3.25x16 a bit later. Any wheels which would have been fit later would have later date stamped and would have been 3.25. Also the shape of the slots/holes are correct and appropriate. I think your wheels are probably correct, and therefore would be some of the earliest known slotted wheels. Unless someone can make an opposing convincing argument, I have to say congratulations. Now you just need to come up with period photos when the car was first bought showing slotted wheels and the doubters can be quieted.
Welcome to the registry online community, your car looks gorgeous. Please post some more pictures. sorry I could not post in French and English.

and the color appears to match

#5 Post by E Ray Knight »

PS and the color on the inside of the rim, clearly original, appears to match to color the car is painted. What is this color and is it correct to the car. If so, this also fits nicely that the rims are original to the car. Ray

Between my slotted rim and a slotted rim in 3.25 i have noted one difference there is no hole for adjust the brake on my brake
so that is normal for me because on a 1950 i have the VW brake and the adjustment is behind the brake
i don t if i am clear ?
LET ME KNOW please !
