So, after all this discussion are you still unsure whether or not the speedie sleeve goes on the pulley??? Where else would it go? I guess the horse does not like the water.Lemuel Libunao wrote:Leo..so the speedi sleeve goes on the pulley...i found the micro groove on my pulley..causeing the leak..

Lemuel,
I guess it might look something like this when installed, correct me if I'm wrong:

Re: Speedi sleeve question
That's exactly the way mine looked. The edge of the sleeve overlaps the end of the pully snout when fully seated. I posted on this previously. When I installed the pully, the edge of the sleeve became distorted when crushed against the slinger, and the pully refused to seat against the slinger. The result was a new, larger leak around the pully bolt. While removing the sleeve, I promptly dropped the pully, and broke a 2" section off the outer rim, requiring replacement of the pully. The new pully solved the leak issue.

Re: Speedi sleeve question
Hi all, I am resuscitating this old thread because I am about to install a new pulley seal and a speedi sleeve to go with it, I wish I had read this thread a year ago when I installed a new oil seal without the sleeve, ( i didn't know about it.) and it leaked right out on the first test drive. When I installed it a year ago I followed Pellow's directions to recess it 1/16" in the shaft, now I saw a video that says to install it 1/16" extending out (proud) of the shaft. So can someone shed some light on this, which is correct/better, I'm tired of oil spots in the garage.
Thanks

Re: Speedi sleeve question
When you press the sleeve all the way on, it usually extends over the end of the pulley. You just have to file it down so it is flush. Be careful and don't distort the edge of the sleeve. Good luck.

Re: Speedi sleeve question
Thanks for the feedback Vic.
I stuck a tape measure (not the most accurate way to measure) in the shaft till it hit the oil slinger and I'm getting approx 7/8"
Measuring the hub on the pulley where the sleeve will go on, and i'm getting 21/32" leaving ample room for the small amount that the sleeve will extend past.
I'm assuming the slinger will slosh around and hit that part if not filed away and tear it up.
What do you think?

Is filing better than maybe cutting with scissors??? before installing of course.Vic Skirmants wrote:When you press the sleeve all the way on, it usually extends over the end of the pulley. You just have to file it down so it is flush. Be careful and don't distort the edge of the sleeve. Good luck.

No, no, no. Don't try to cut it before installing; you will deform it.victor spadoni wrote:Is filing better than maybe cutting with scissors??? before installing of course.Vic Skirmants wrote:When you press the sleeve all the way on, it usually extends over the end of the pulley. Re: Speedi sleeve question
I would still like to know from anyone, is the seal recessed or does it stick out.

Re: Speedi sleeve question
The seal in the timing cover should be flush with the surface.
