Kumho's

#2 Post by Barry Brisco »

In Oct. 2005 I bought a set of 5 Kumho 758 185 65 15 tires from an
ebay seller named "Nikki" <bacardi12@mac.com>, tel. 1.888.751.1766.
That's all the info I have in my files on the seller, I have no idea
if they still sell on ebay or if "Nikki" is their ebay seller name,
it's just the name they used when emailing me. They shipped the
tires to me from the East Coast and I had no problems with the
transaction. They've been on my A coupe since that time.

I don't see where that is a deal on those tires. I purchased my last 4 for $200 and no shipping and mounting and balancing was included. If you figure these that are on ebay motors I would have spent $208 plus 71.40 for shipping for a total of $279.40 and then you have to get them mounted for another fee.

I'm not saying its a deal. I'm saying they're available. 165/80/15's are unobtainium right now unless you want to pay $100+ each.

Tire Rack must be getting closer to getting tires. Availability still shows as backorder, but the price/tire just went up from $40 to $55. And here I just cancelled my order at the old price... :(

The reason I cancelled my backorder (other than not believing I'd actually get tires anytime soon) is because I ordered some Vredestein Sprint Plus tires from Tires Unlimited. At ~$70 plus shipping they're situated between the Kumhos at ~$52-$55 (delivery someday) and the Vredestein Sprint Classics at ~$100, which have a more correct tread pattern for those so concerned.

At some point, would you rather save $60 or have your vehicle back on the road? I'm cheap, but I'm not that cheap! I put my order in on Friday afternoon, and by Saturday morning had a confirmation that the tires had been shipped. I should have them on rims by next weekend. :D

Why not just buy the Kumho 185/65/TR15 tires, which are in stock at Tire Rack.

I bought a set of these for my 64C coupe last October for $41 each, when the 165s became hard to get.
They are still a good value at the current price of $48 each.

I don't notice much difference on 4.5 inch stock rims compared with the Dunlop 165s on my 65C coupe.

Tires arrived in two days. I'm all set now and feel much better than riding on 30 year old tires.

Kumhos

#8 Post by William Knebel »

After seeing all the talk on aged tires I decided to replace my 10 year old Michelin XZXs. I hated those tires from the beginning. I never was able to find a set of pressures that would eliminate the hunting on concrete freeways. I placed an order for the 165 Kumhos yesterday at the $40 price. I got a call from Tire Rack within a half hour for verification that I understood that they are back order. They still expect to get them but have no forecast date.

Tom

Did you have to get the Kumho tires mounted locally? Does buywheelstoday.com recommend someone locally to mount the tires on your wheels? I need to get some new tires, and it has been awhile!

Tire Mounting

#11 Post by Tom Farnam »

Pat, like most mail order houses, they simply ship you the tires (in my case to Tim Berardelli's shop, thanks Tim) and you get them mounted locally. Since my car has "C' brakes and wheels, that's not a big challenge.

Don't even know if the "buy wheels today" operation recommends mounting shops, know the one around the corner from Tim's place and will just use them.
