Let me re-word this 8) It's late here!

Is the steel dash top the same in A cars as it is in the B/C cars? Is it the same part?

I'm doing research for an article. I believe they are but want to hear from someone who knows.

Thanks!

Assuming you have the various parts books: They may be the same part or at least very similar!

1. In the C supplement to the B parts book, the "upper cover over dashboard, sheet-metal, without lining" is part #644.552.033.07 [diagram 7/7C].

2. In the B T-5 parts book, the "upper cover over dashboard, without lining" is part #644.552.033.00 [diagram 7/7].

3. In the A parts book, the "covering sheet over dashboard without lining" is 644.552.301/644.552.033.00 [diagram 68].

Notice that the A part is actually two numbers, one of which is 644.552.033.00, which is the same as the B T-5 part #644.552.033.00.

Also, the B T-5 part #644.552.033.00 is the same as the C part #644.552.033.07 EXCEPT for the last two numbers (07).

These last two numbers "07" indicate "modification". The part may essentially be the same with only a slight modification. (Source: Porsche Part Numbers, Porsche/Audi, Porsche Audi Pacific, a Division of Volkswagen Pacific, Inc., Catalog #2A, dtd 1/25/71.)

So it would appear that the A part and the C part are probably very nearly the same, with some slight modification in the C part.

This analysis is based strictly on the part numbers found in the parts books. Holding up an A part and a C part and comparing the two may result in a different conclusion.

Yes, they are the same..................almost. The C dash top has a cut out in it for the dash light that was not installed in the A or B Coupes. So, a C dash top can not be made into a A or B dash top because of the hole in it. An A or B dash top can be made into a C by chopping a crude hole in it for the dash light.
