Apparently it must be an Arizona thing. I tell you, allow you to strap a gun on your hip and anything goes. Damm Outlaws!

My cab? has 15/5 Fuchs with 205 Yokahama's on it. it clears everywhere and gives a nice smooth ride , and is a pleasure in the twistee's. It had extra long lugs put in at some time. so it has steel bolts holding it. i'd like to get the correct length for fuchs and the aluminum lug nuts that were standard with these wheels.
i like this set up fine , but the fuchs might end up on my 911 sometime with more standard looking wheels for the cab?.

All:

Here is a picture of the Fuchs wheel on my Oulaw Speedster 82984. The wheels are the hard ones to find, 4.5 x 15 and they carry the correct size tire, 155 x 15, for the period. They are not chromium plated, just polished to death.

I am new to this forum, but have had this '65SC since 1977. It has had 14x5.5 Fuchs with 195/60s on it most of that time.
It is true that the speedo is incorrect but the lower gearing more that makes up for that inconvenience. It can be busy at freeway speeds but if you spend most of your time on back roads it is a hoot.

I just purchased a set of early offset Fuchs for my '58 'mild' Outlaw project. They are 6J x 15 and part no. 911.361.020 and are on their way to Harvey Weidman for refinishing. I haven't made a decision on tires yet but they will not be low profile as I favor the appearance of the Fuchs wheel and older cars shod with a traditional taller tire as on my '73S.

I previously posted about Fuchs on a 356-C. I mentioned that I liked the size and weight of the Fuchs 14" wheel, but not the "star" appearance. So I had the wheels refinished. Attached is a picture which I didn't have at the time of the previous post.

Looks nice. Who did you have do the refinishing? Wondering if it was a shop that specializes in wheels.

thanks

Minilites

I know we are talking about fuchs but how about a set of minilites. Any photos of minilites on 356's.

Hi everyone,

This is my first post after watching for a long time from between San Francisco and the Napa/Sonoma wine country.

I've been running 5.5 x 15 Fuchs since the early 1970's on my C coupe. The coupe was built in Dec. of 1963. It was one of the first 400 C series made and yes, I still have the original logo free hubcaps and stock wheels.

The car has had lots of suspension work done and I used to run 185/70 XWX tires. They were a tight fit in the back and rubbed in the front at full lock. The last few tire sets have been 195/60 x 15. They work very well and look great, but the engine turns lots of rev’s on the freeway.

3000 rpm at 60 mph gets real old after awhile. These days I drive it like an old VW bus on the freeway. I just take my time and I’ll eventually get there. Off the freeway I drive it as it was meant to be driven.

The car has been mostly used as my daily driver since I purchased it in the early 1970s. It has given me many happy times and lots of great friends. It has been autocrossed for many years with great success, though Larry Wilson from Sacramento beat me every time we raced. Oh well.

Attached are photos of the car with Fuchs and I think a style of Minilites with race tires.

Al Reed in Orange CA is one of the most reasonable and popular Fuchs refinishers. 714-632-3907.

Old school kinda guy, will even loan you a set of Fuchs while yours are being redone....he's done my Mahle Gas Burners, three sets of Fuchs from full polish to frost finish as well as nice work on early Cookie Cutters.

Of course using any wheel like what's above on a 356 isn't proper and correct.....%^B

Rudge wheels were a factory option on the 356 (in Germany) also an upgrade on the Mercedes 300SL.
It's understandable you never saw them here, or can't afford them at todays rates---but don't put 'em down.
