Position heat control/shift lever

#1 Post by Etienne Kerkhoffs »

I've read that in 1958 the heat control in the 358a T-2 moved to the front of the shift lever. Did the position of the shift lever changed too, or did it stay in the same position? And why was this change?

Position heat control/shift lever

The shift lever moved back to about the position where the heater control
was located. This change was made so that the shift lever was easier to
reach, particularly for the second to third upshift. If you have driven a
T-2 you will appreciate the difference.

Thanks for your prompt answer. A friend has a '57 coupe and I will get my '58 T-2 sunroof coupe within a couple of weeks. Both are restoration projects and not complete. So I will experience the difference in the future. We both have some spare parts and we are investigating which part are interchangeable.
Another questionmark is the rear tailskin. the T-2 has cut-outs for the exhausts. Now we are wondering if the engine got a different position, or did the tail panel got a complete new shape or is it just the muffler that changed?
