Info about 356 buttons.
I’ve been looking for threads showing the various original and later made reproduction flasher (horn) buttons for 356As. I am pretty certain I saw a thread on it before but can’t find it.

I tried searching the Talk List and Googled the topic but I didn't find what you are looking for.

Yes. Thanks.
Of course somewhere I saw some comparison of period and non period buttons as well.

Re: Info about 356 buttons.
The term NOS is always confusing. I assume it’s used as to be whatever Porsche sold, even if it’s not exactly the same as what Porsche used in period? Not related to Joris’s post but in general.
Here’s the button I have to go onto my flat VDM wheel.
(The VDM wheel is original wood, etc and I really like the patina. The button is not fully inserted in the photo.).
It doesn’t have the VDM logo but has the four prong antler.

Re: Info about 356 buttons.
I have never been on this forum and I have a question: I have owned my 1963 T-6 356 B Coupe since about 1988 and have never had a horn problem. My wife and I took it out of the shop for it's 2nd springtime drive and the horn started blowing with every bump on our gravel drive and you could get it to sound off almost by just blowing on the horn button. The problem is definitely in the column right under the button. I can't figure out how to get this stock button assembly off to look into what may have happened suddenly after 32 years. Can anyone give a long time member some good advice? I would sure appreciate it. Thank you, John D. Csaftis, Medford, Oregon

For comparison, this one was original. Not great photos but I sold the wheel years ago.Richard Emerson wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 11:53 am The term NOS is always confusing. Re: Info about 356 buttons.
horn button twists off counterclockwise, 1/4 turn. There is a rubber cuff between the horn button and the wheel, it is probably bone dry after 32 years and you will need a new one to get the flex back in it. Might as well buy a new horn contact while you are in there.john csaftis wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 10:03 pm I have never been on this forum and I have a question: I have owned my 1963 T-6 356 B Coupe since about 1988 and have never had a horn problem. Thank you Jules, I will try again. I suspected that it would come off by twisting counter-clockwise but it won't budge! I will try again tomorrow and try and not break it if it doesn't cooperate. If I fail, I wonder what the next logical step would be? Maybe squirt a little lubricant like WD-40 around the minor gap between button and wheel? I also wonder if I could even find an original or repro button and new rubber cuff.

If you have two people it can come in handy with a really stuck one, have one person hold the wheel, and then 2nd can turn the horn button with two hands, and yes little lube goes a long way.john csaftis wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 1:03 am Thank you Jules, I will try again. Turn the wheel full counter-clockwise; no need for a helper. Push down on the button when turning. It will be stiff.

Re: Info about 356 buttons.
Thanks guys, it finally came off with no damage and it does appear to have a collapsed, worn out rubber cuff in the center which I think is the reason the button is so sensitive that it is contacting when it shouldn't, at least that's my hope. Stoddard had one is stock and it's on it's way. Thanks again for helping me out.
