Can anyone clarify how Carlo Abarth"s last name was pronounced?

AY-barth is definitely not right. I suspect it is pronounced somewhat like the English word "apart". Same stressed last syllable but with a "b" in place of the "p".

He was born an Austrian despite the Italian sounding first name, so I suspect the final "th" would never be pronounced like our "th", but like the hard "th" in the German word "Thueringen". (can't do umlauts on this damned computer)

I'd go for "abbart" - both short 'A's.

but it all depends on what country you are from. Our friends from France
would have their way. Spain the same.

I do this for a living (sort of)

Btw - the umlaut letters on US keyboards are in the numbered keyboard with asci-codes:

So: ä is alt+132, ü is alt +129 and ö = alt+148

Make sure numlock is on.

Lesson 2 will be the same, but in caps.

It sounds very sporty, and when you're standing next to it when it is not in the air I don't think it sticks out too far. My father has one on his 64' coupe. The P-912 is hard to find you could probably get a pretty penny for it if you don't use it. However I haven't seen one that doesn't have that special driveway mods.

I have a 912 engine with a 912 abarth muffler. Will the muffler work with my 54 coupe without adjustment of the exhaust pipes? I am worred about body clearance.

Bring back an old thread as I am currently on the hunt for a "new" 4 tip for a project...

Anyways to answer your question, my '54 has an SC engine in it bore out to 1720cc (??) with 48 IDA's, but it ran great with the stock P-11's too. It came with the 4 tip pictured, but I have no idea of it's origin or make.

If fit right into the engine bay with no issues, I can even pull it without removing the IDA's.

Back to Abarth 4 tips, NLA is the place to get them new, is that right?
My trans is the stock 519 with no mods at all. Drives great, sounds great, looks great!

It looks like an original Abarth. If you look at the ad's for them in the beginning of this thread you will notice the 6 rings around the can. I have not seen a repop with the rings on the can.

I have seen them for sale there. However, just went to their website & did not see them. Perhaps they are out of stock? Brad from NLA frequents the list, maybe he can give us an update.

I'm glad Al and a couple of other guys mentioned what a pain in the butt they are to install. The flanges were not parallel and in one case I recall they were twisted so that I had to use a torch to get them to line up with the head studs. But of all the exhausts for a 356, in my opinion, they made the nicest noise!

We dropped the stainless Abarth mufflers. They were made in Europe and the price kept going higher and higher.

I pulled this out of a 912. I don't think its Abarth, just a late-style look a like.
And from measuring I think it will fit no problem in my Pre-A.

I installed an old (but never used) Monza style exhaust that looks exactly like the Abarth in the last picture of the three ads that Charlie sent. It was snug, but I got the engine in by myself, with some help from my wife!

Here, hopefully, are some pictures of it right after I bought it.
