There Are Several Ways to Contact Forum Members

Please do not post "Looking For So-and-So" because there are ways to contact Forum members directly while preserving their privacy. Here are the steps to follow, try it once and it will be easy to remember the next time:

1. Log in to the Forum and click the "Memberlist" link at the top of every Forum web page.

2. In the top pulldown menu "Select sort method" click and select "Username", then
click the "Sort" button on the right.

3. Now you have an alphabetized list by first and last name of all Forum members, 50 members to a page.

4. Next to every members name is an "email" button and a "pm" button.
Click either to send that member a message. One method sends it via
email (but without revealing the member's email address), the other "private message" method sends them your message through the Forum.

5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and note that it shows links "Goto page 1, 2, 3 ... 19, 20, 21 Next". If the members first name starts with R or above, try clicking "19". Clicking "3" will get you to the end of the B's. Click the "Next" or "Previous" links to move through the alphabet.

By following this procedure you do not have to post a message to the list that goes out to the over 1,000 members, you can contact the member you are looking for directly.

It's faster because you don't have to wait for hours or days and hope the person you are trying to contact sees your post, and easy to do unless the Forum member has chosen a username that is not their actual name.

Yet another advantage of using a real name for a Forum username! People can communicate with you! But they cannot see your email address unless you reply to them via email. If you do not want to reveal your email address, use the "pm" method.

Another Way to Find Members: Use the Search Function

If a member has ever posted to the Forum you can find their post by using the "Search" function, which is a link at the top of every Forum page, and then email or pm them.

On the Search page, in the "Search for Author:" box, type in the member's username and click the "Search" button at the bottom of the page.

Of course you probably won't know the exact spelling of the member's username, and in that case, use the * character as a "wildcard" for partial matches.

That means that if you only know the last name of the person you are searching for, for example "Brisco", enter this in the "Search for Author:" box

*Brisco

Then click the "Search" button at the bottom of the page. Now you
will find all posts by Forum members whose username ends in "Brisco".

You can use more than one * character in your search, for example

*Bri*

That will show all member usernames with the letters "bri" in them.

You do not need to worry about capitalization, the search function is not case-sensitive.

Of course the search function can also be used to search for a specific word or words in posts made to the Forum, just enter text in the "Search for Keywords:" box.
