Rebuilt C engine Installation Basics

#1 Post by Dave Reilly »

Within next 2 weeks I and local VW mechanic will be installing rebuilt C engine in my C coupe. After getting great advice from many Talk members I went with 1720 cc p/c kt and modest higher touque cam. We are keeping Zenith 32 NDIX carbs and stock exhaust system. I live in extreme nothern NH and we do not have a dyno to use. Could the "engine guys" give me the basics on installation precedures i.e valve clearances, engine prime, etc. Also if there are any technical articles on the topic please advise. Thanks Dave Reilly[/list]

Dave- You might want to contact Rainer Cooney who is in Barnstead, NH. He is a very experienced 356 mechanic that might be able to help and you might even be close enought to take your car to for service? He services many of the TYP356ne members cars.

Your combination should give you a good solid and very flexible motor. I
would set all the parts to a stock setting. You might want to get an
electronic timing light so you can set the timing at max advance. due to
the age of the distributors you might end up short in the timing (loss
of power) or too much advance (holes in pistons).
