Hi, new to the 356 life and glad to find this on the registry.
I'm trying to bring my new found 356 to life and am a little stuck. Seems I can't get the generator nut off to change the fan belt. Do you guys have any suggestions on getting her unstuck?
Thanks!

Did you use a screw driver to keep the pully from turning? There are two slots in the back half of the pully. Insert the screw driver in one of the openings and use the rachet to loosen the nut.

Okay, got it off. Put a oil filter wrench over the end of the pulley and my 1/2 ratchet on the nut. Finally broke loose with my elbow hitting the edge of the engine compartment....ouch, thats gonna leave a mark....

Stuck Gen Nut
John:
I use one of those Craftsman rubberband wrenches. It can be used to loosen or tighten the nut. Just wrap it around the gen pulley to hold it from turning. No marks on scratches.

Stuck Generator Nut
One more reason to own an air powered impact wrench.

Stuck Generator Nut
When I tighten the generator pulley nut, every wrench turn or two, I allow the pulley to rotate. This allows the belt to work its way up in the grooves as opposed to being stuck and side loading the pulleys as I tighten. The nut could seem really tight because the pulleys are bottomed out on the belt only to loosen when running the car. The could result in the pulleys "working" back and forth, making the holes in the pulley halves into hourglass shaped holes, chewing up the hub and other bad things.
