Nice seats for A Coupe!?
I need some inspiration here please. I have the stock seats in my coupe and don't like them too much. So I am toying with the idea of putting other seats yet want to keep my budget in check.
I like the speedster seats - could I adapt them to the coupe (1959)?
Any other nice/racy options?
Thx,
Dirk

This one's also nice from the same company:

I've seen this one in person, in all black without the headrest and it looks great.

A seats
Hi Dirk,
I know of a club member that has the opposite issue. He has A coupe with speedster seats and wants regular seats instead.
Can you pm me if you are interested in a possible trade?
Thanks

speedster seats in a coup
Please don't put speedster seats in your 356 coupe. Would you put a bikini on the mona lisa? Why don't you like your seats? William

Dirk,
I've got these in my SC coupe right now: http://www.koenig-usa.com/sport.html
Pretty spendy new, but I got a nice pair used for a good price. They're comfy and give great support, but they're not for the broad of beam.
One more thing, it's your car, so use any seats you like --

I must persist
I must persist. You say that you have some A seats. A seats are elegant, luxurious, and beautiful to look at and are appropriate for your elegant A. You didn't answer my question: why don't you like your present seats? William

I don't think it's a matter of not liking the original seats.
You could (and many did) order your car with the speedster seats, especially if you went racing or rallying (very common here in Sweden in the 50's).
I once bought such a seat from a guy who bought it new in 1962 as a spare part. It was extremely expensive in 1962 - about one third of a new VW beetle...
The shell was in aluminium and referred to as an original sport seat.
A Cool seat to have in an A.

Yes and some speedster owners bought coupe seats as their choice. I like to see original seats as mine are in an "A" but... mine have slowly internal horse hair padding changing into powder and no head rests. My daily BMW has old seats but good head rests. When I am out in the "A" I sometimes flinch when people drive up my a##e and can imagine my poor old ( and its not young any more) neck having no support if they hit me.
The seats were comfortable many years ago, but in only my opinion offer non of the support possible today. As Reutter changed to Recaro if I am right maybe they have a seat that would fit also? Its tongue in cheek keeping it in the family then?
I suppose it comes down to how often you drive the car and how at ease you want to feel doing that. I guess Dirk has his own ideas also.

My 59 cabrio was delivered from the factory with a GT seat for the driver and a normal seat for the passenger among many other GT accessories. Since I do not like mixing leather shoe with Flip flops I decided to get another GT seat for the right and save the normal seat to relax in the garage.
If you ask me I like the speedster seats for the more more spirited driving than the normal seats which are a lot more comfortable while driving in the city - at least you can decide when you want to open your legs to relax.
If your seats are not comfortable I suggest you to rebuild them - it is cheaper than buying speedster seats and they are very comfortable, but please do not use Jaguar, Cobra or Sparco seats in your 356.
Bellow you have some pictures on how the GT seats look inside a cabrio:
