Hey guys,
I recently realized I have the wrong fan shroud for my engine. I am restoring a early 1957 1600 Normal engine that is correct for my car but have what appears to be a early 1960's S90 fan shroud. My question is, although I know it is not correct, is there any problem using this fan shroud/setup on my engine. Cooling issues? Charging issues? I may eventually change back to the original fan shroud and Solex carbs but would like to use this setup as a driver for now.
Thank you in advance
J

Re: Fan shroud Question
Uh I have to disagree w/ Vic on this. If the '57 engine is using the original single barrel Solex carbs, the linkage for them will not work with the later fan housing, and there might be an interference with the carbs and the fan housing. The earlier fan shrouds had bracketry spot welded to attach the earlier carb linkage and also had relief pockets to provide carb clearance (although I am not sure it was required.) If, however, you are using later carbs (Zeniths or 40pii-4's) and their associated manifolds then you are good to go.

Re: Fan shroud Question
Also, an S90 fan housing would be colored w/a Silver Metalic which 'kinda' shows under the black spray.

Re: Fan shroud Question
Good point, Allen.
Although: when I originally built my 1300cc SCCA G-Production car, I used a later shroud and modified the 40PICB carb linkage to work like the Zenith linkage. Later, the car was permitted Zeniths.
Not what I would recommend for a restoration.
J; if you need a correct housing, PM me.

Re: Fan shroud Question
You should rotate your generator one more bolt counterclockwise to clear the oil filler.

Re: Fan shroud Question
The generator is in the CORRECT position for the flip-top oil filler. The C and 912 oil filler needs the generator rotated 1/4 turn counter-clockwise to clear the oil filler.

Re: Fan shroud Question
Vic: I am looking at the practical aspect of the generator instillation. Some credence must be forthcoming since on the C engine the generator was rotated. al zim
