Curious - Stoddard/NLA price

#1 Post by Jim Beam »

I recently purchased a plastic ball socket (911 424 139 00) from Stoddard. Price was $6.05 plus shipping. I noticed the same part listed with NLA at $13.05. I am curious as to why the difference. I thought Stoddard and NLA were one and the same???

That's my fault--I update prices on Stoddard.com daily---sometimes the update file doesn't make it to NLA's site as regularly as it should.

Jim, shop one against the other. See if NLA will go down to $3.99 to get the sale away from Stoddard!

Cliff is right, I’ve shopped Stodd/NLA vs Sierra Madre and got the lowest price when asking, and depending on where you are, shipping may also be less depending on your location.

Or, thankfully pay the price and appreciate the increadibke effort and risk that our vendors go through to make these parts available in the first place. It would probably be a lot more profitable to sell Toyota parts and not have to have folks grinding you on parts that are about the price of a decent burger!

I agree with you Greg. Happy to have both NLA and Stoddard as vendors. They do a great job and I have used both for years. Not complaining at all - I was just curious and thought there might be two variations of the same part?

Guys,

Cliffy was just making a little joke (he's usually not so funny so I can see how that might be lost on everyone :P ).

The intertwined history and partnership between Stoddard and Brad at NLA is a long and famous one. Cliff was just funnin' about getting the same company to compete against itself, not trying to chisel down a vendor.

As Per Schroeder pointed out above, there was a price glitch and is now corrected.

Note: there are two versions of this bushing. The Porsche supplied part is p/n 911 424 139 01; it's grey in color and sells for about $15 to $17. Also, Stoddard NLA (and others) sells a German-supplied part under p/n SIC 424 139 00; it's yellowish in color and sells for about $6.

Agree. Stoddard and Stoddard/NLA provide an invaluable service and I'm fine paying a little more knowing of their service and knowing they will stand by what they sell.

Reminds me of my local "old fashioned" hardware store. I patronize them regularly even though I could save a few bucks going to Home Depot (which is not much farther away). I recently swapped a propane tank at my local store and the employee told me I could save $5 by going somewhere else - I told him I'm fine paying a little more to keep them in business (and he was appreciative after realizing that also meant keeping him employed).
