Part ID--What is this bracket/clamp for?

#1 Post by Eric Wills »

I checked with some guys around here, nobody seems to know exactly what this is. Obviously, it seems to be a mount for something. Who knows?

I would feel pretty safe in saying it is not from a 356.

It somewhat resembles a pre A hand brake bracket that mounts to the steering column, but it is not.

Definitely the clutch lever bracket from Mike Hailwwod's Honda 250cc 6 cylinder 1965 GP bike. It will not fit the 4 cylinder version.

Wait ,wait Eric. It is definitely off a 356 insofar as it is not on one. It can also be off a Rolls Royce or Concord, and I have no idea what it could once have been on but not a 356 either.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Still going to toss it. It came from a collection of parts that Jim Meehan once owned. This was probably in the barn that burned down with the 904 and a lot of parts in there. Anyone here who was on the 4 cam register remember Jim?

Eric, if no one can identify it as a push-rod 356 part, it is obviously a 4-cam part!
No, I don't want it; your scrap barrel is probably bigger than mine...

Eric,
I certainly remember Jim. Lived a couple blocks from him in Bethesda before he moved to VA.

Since you guys are having fun with this......Some more details.

The bolts are M8X1.25 marked F&H 8G

The M6 hardware has what seems to be burnt rubber on the end. What is left seems identical to part number 901.501.864.00 They are fuel pump mounts for early 911. Either the same or similar mounts as used on electric sunroof motors.

There is a locating pin visible in the attached pic. It measures approximately 6mm diameter. It is crusty, so measurement might be slightly off. A locating pin on a ZF steering box measures about 5mm.

To clarify my intentions here, I am really just curious what the hell this is. If someone has an actual need for this part for their auto (or motorcycle) and can demonstrate what it is, I'll donate this to them at no cost including shipping.
